Diphu, June 22: On Saturday, ten individuals associated with the newly established militant organization Dimasa Halan Dui United (DHD-U) surrendered to the police in Dhansiri, as confirmed by law enforcement officials on Sunday.
During a press conference, Superintendent of Police Sanjib Kumar Saikia explained that the police had been monitoring the group since April after receiving intelligence about their activities.
He disclosed that the DHD(U) was secretly attempting to revive a separatist movement in the hilly regions.
Saikia mentioned, “Although the DHD(U) has not yet been officially recognized as an organization, we successfully intercepted their plans in advance,” emphasizing that the surrender was a result of effective intelligence operations and diligent surveillance of the group's activities.
The Superintendent added that the ten youths who surrendered expressed a wish to reintegrate into society.
The police further indicated that the DHD(U), primarily composed of young members from the Dimasa tribal community, was reportedly raising funds from isolated villages.
Saikia noted, “We have received information about some funds being collected from remote areas, but no formal complaints have been lodged yet.”
Authorities believe the group had started recruiting additional members and acquiring weapons.
During the surrender, law enforcement recovered a significant cache of arms, including an AK-47 rifle, three pistols, a grenade, and numerous rounds of live ammunition.
Security forces are optimistic that this operation will deter other insurgent groups and reassure the community about ongoing efforts to uphold law and order in Assam's hilly regions.
Previously, on June 19, Assam's Director General of Police Harmeet Singh reported a notable decrease in the state's crime rate, which fell to 127.6 per lakh population in 2025, down from 139.3 in 2024 and 385.8 in 2019.
